FedEx Truck Fire Shuts Down Highway 281 North of Stephenville

Traffic along U.S. Highway 281 north of Stephenville and Morgan Mill came to a standstill Wednesday afternoon after a FedEx truck caught fire, sparking a grass fire.

The incident occurred 6 miles north of Morgan Mill on U.S. Highway 281 as the truck was traveling northbound. Flames quickly spread from the vehicle into nearby grass, prompting a swift response from local fire departments and law enforcement.

First responders closed the highway in both directions while crews worked to contain the grass fire and extinguish the truck flames. The fire and resulting closure caused traffic delays and a long backup along Highway 281.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control before it spread to any structures, and no injuries were immediately reported. After extinguishing the fire, crews cleared debris and ensured the roadway was safe for travel. Highway 281 was reopened shortly afterward, allowing traffic to resume.
